About Epsom & Ewell Colts
History of Epsom & Ewell Football Club
In 2006 a dream partnership between Epsom and Ewell Football Club and the West Ewell Wanderers FC youth was formed. In their coming together the objective is to build on the respective strengths of both clubs to their mutual benefit.
West Ewell Wanderers Football Club were formed in 1971 by local parents and have grown successfully to their current status. They run a Soccer Academy for 4 - 6 year olds and teams in subsequent age groups up to under-17’s. Epsom and Ewell Football Club were formed in 1918 and famously played in the inaugural FA Vase Final at Wembley in 1975 in front of over 10,000 spectators. They run an Under 18’s team and two senior sides. Following re-organisation recently the first team now play in the Combined Counties League after spending 29 years in the Rymans Isthmian League.
The partnership is seen as advantageous to both clubs - from Epsom and Ewell FC's point of view, the link up gives them an affiliation with an established boys club. The aim is to build a strong link between those boys and the senior side so the junior teams identify with the senior football team and realise an opportunity to progress to senior football exists.
It is hoped this will help develop a pool of good local talent for Epsom and Ewell's first team in the future and from West Ewell Wanderers' point of view, the link up will give the more able squad members something to aspire to. Both clubs currently play their football outside of Epsom and Ewell and share the common goal of re-establishing themselves back inside the Borough. It is hoped the new set up will help the clubs achieve their ambition and provide opportunities for the people of Epsom and Ewell and the surrounding areas to play and follow football in a safe and supportive environment.
A further partnership with Banstead Rangers FC resulted in both clubs, West Ewell Wanderers and Banstead Rangers covering all junior age groups and began to represent Epsom and Ewell Colts FC from the 2006/07 season. Since the formation of the Colts section, the club has gone from strength to strength, not only on the pitch but the re-structure of the commitee and managers has given the club great stability. In such a small space of time the club has already completed many goals and objectives set out as part of a five year plan to cement our position as a community club, giving football development for all ages.
